Default planning

It seems to me that there should be an inventory of compatible business/commercial uses of energy.
I often think of the Ice skating rink that makes ice in the summer and is constantly dumping thermal energy and the community swimming pool that needs thermal energy to stay warm.

I think of the refrigeration systems used to keep food cold or large air conditiong systems in some large restaurants or diners and possibly a bio diesel processing plant right next door which could use this dissapated energy.

Maybe town planners could use such an inventory to match up energy hungry entities with energy rich entities.

I see a lot of large homes with central air conditioning exausting hot air to the outside and not too far away, I see the pool heated by an electric heat pump which is exhausting lots of cold air.
Why not put them next to each other so they could compliment each other?

This is by far the smartest thing Ive heard in a while (and very common sense). If only this could be implemented. It falls far from the "money making" mentality of most business and it certainly eliminates many opportunities to sell people things they don't need. For some reason I don't think it will ever fly, but its nice to dream.
